A film about a public bath house in London during the 1970's directed by a Polish filmmaker would seem to be about the last thing that would have any appeal at all. But this is a pretty good film.
A teenage boy gets a job in the bath house and works along side a young woman who he becomes obsessed with. The woman is played by Jane Asher, and she is very good walking the sexy tease tightrope with the boy. Asher's performance is about as good as I've seen for a while. The boy played by an actor named John Moulder Brown is also very good as the innocent teenager who is also kind of a creepy stalker.
If the definition of good directing is telling a good story, then Jerzy Skolimowski is a very skilled film maker. The film definitely keeps you watching. Deep End has a European sensibility to it. The film also has what is probably a more realistic view of "Swinging London" than something like The Knack. It would probably be safe to say that "Swinging London" looks like a real depressing place to be hanging around.
The other appeal of this film besides the fine acting and interesting story, is Jane Asher running around in a pair of white go-go boots.
