2026 - THE LAST HOUSE, is B movie stuff

The B movie genre lives on particularly on these streaming sites.  The Last House has a reasonably decent idea for a story.  A family has to survive inside their suburban home.  The film sets up this situation but unsurprisingly can't really find a way to resolve it satisfactorily.

In brief, because the movie sure isn't.  A family starts their day by getting ready to leave their home.  The trouble is they can't get out of the house.  The doors won't open and windows won't open.  Even attempts to break the windows and doors down fail.  The family is trapped inside of their home without an explanation.  Not that I want to point it out but this is the same situation that arose in Luis Bunuel's The Exterminating Angel.  However Bunuel's film was a satire of the upper class.  The Last House is strictly a science fiction film with horror moments stuck in it and yes there are monsters involved in the plot.

At first the idea of being permanently trapped in your house is kind of a clever one.  How do you survive when you start to run out of food.  How do you communicate with your neighbors?  How does this family keep from driving each other crazy?  More importantly what will they do when they lose access to the internet  Well you have close to two long hours to find out.

I  really don't have a problem with B-movies like this.  The premise can make for a fairly entertaining time killer of a movie.  What I do have a problem with is the drawing out of the premise.  In the good old days a director like Roger Corman could have taken an idea like this and knocked it out in 72 minutes.  The Last House just goes on and on until it finally has to find a contrived explanation of what is causing this phenomenon and then figure out a resolution for it.  I'm fully aware that with a high concept like this there will inevitably be a let down with the explanation of the story.  It's just the way these kinds of movies go.

The cast kind of does what it can in the acting department.  In films like this the dialog isn't exactly Shakespearean, we are in the B-movie tradition of very lame dialog. There's lots of talk about what it means to be a family and how this situation bonds them together even closer.  The Last House's family situation kind of reminds me of the Space Family Robinson from Lost in Space who only had each other to count on when they were trapped on an alien plane also loaded with strange monsters.

Is this film worth viewing?  Well probably not. As usual this is just another made for streaming movie that will end up in the abyss of all the other streaming films that are viewed once and never heard of again.

The film was written by Mathew Robinson the writer of Love and Monsters who in this case is really just reworking the same plot as that film.  The running time is 112 minutes. 

1959 - HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM - a real piece of crap for a horror film

Horrors of the Black Museum is a horror film that is really a horror of a film to watch.  This is the first in a series of three the other two films being Circus of Horrors and Peeping Tom.  The plot has a crime reporter and the police investigating some gruesome murders being committed on what else, beautiful women.  The crime reporter just happens to have a secret room in his house which is a celebration of various types of murders using bizarre devices to kill people.  Well you can guess where this is going.  There is also a Jekyll/Hyde character and a couple of young lovers but in this film I can assure you they won't last long as a couple.

 

Let's get to the main lead in this film.  Michael Gough plays the crime reporter.  Gough had a long career in horror films.  He shows up in crap like Dr. Terror's House of Horrors, The Skull, Trog and the British remake of The Phantom of the Opera.  Towards the end of his career Tim Burton cast his as Alfred Pennyworth in  Batman.  Burton must have had a fondness for Gough he used him in four more films.

To single out a couple of supporting players in this film.  Sbirley Anne Field was one of those model turned actor individuals.  She was easy on the eyes but not really known for her thespian abilities.  Geoffrey Kean was a working actor who usually turned up in supporting roles playing a Scotland Yard Inspector or a military officer.  He ended up taking over the role of "M" in the James Bond films after Bernard Lee passed away.  He was always a reliable presence playing that "stiff upper lip" character the Brits were so fond of sticking in their films.

Horrors of the Black Museum is essentially a series of killings with some sex tease stuff throw in. The killings don't really have any reason to them and are just killings for the sake of titillating the viewer.  The film was commercially successful.  For the most these films usually make money.  Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the movie going public.

The film was photographed in some really lurid color and had of all things a hypnotism prologue which ran 13 minutes.  The prologue was eventually edited out of the released version of the film as the producers claimed it was actually hypnotizing people in the theater. 

Horrors of the Black Museum was written by Herman Cohen and Aben Kandel, the running time is 81 minutes but if you find a copy with the hypnosis prologue add an additional 13 minutes to the film.

1964 - THE GHOST OF SIERRA DE COBRE, interesting ghost story

This is a ghost story that was originally a pilot for a Twilight Zone type series about the supernatural.  The creator/writer/director was a man called Joseph Stefano who mostly worked in television and when given the chance made some very interesting offbeat films.  On the television side of the entertainment business he was the creator of the original Outer Limits TV series and wrote a very strange pilot for an anthology series The Unknown called The Forms of Things Unknown.  If you can find a copy of it it's worth a look.  Stefano also wrote for series like Star Trek the Next Generation and Marcus Welby M.D. 

On the feature film side Stefano's outstanding film credit was for Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho.  He wrote the screenplay for Gary Cooper's final film the psycho killer on the loose The Naked Edge, (spoiler Cooper is not the razor slicing madman).  Stefano also has a writing credit on the weird Eye of the Cat a kitty-cat horror film.

The Ghost of Sierra De Cobre TV pilot was not picked up by any television network so Stefano being a clever fellow took the pilot rewrote some of it and turned it into an actual film.  The film looks very good for what was originally a television show.  The photography was by Conrad Hall one of the absolute best cinematographers who could work in black and white and color with great skill.  The cast was interesting to say the least. Martin Landau is the psychic investigator, Diane Baker is a woman apparently haunted by the ghost and "Mrs Danvers" herself Judith Anderson is a woman who knows the secret of the ghost.

As befits a film originally made for television this is a modest but effective ghost story.  No question the photography really contributes to the eerie mood of the film and the on location filming on the beaches of Malibu make for a striking location.  The Ghost of Sierra De Cobre is available for rent on YouTube.  Worth a look for horror fans.

The film runs 80 minutes. 

1954 - GORILLA AT LARGE, entertaining murder mystery with a great gimmick

Yes examine the title.  The film features a guy in a monkey suit but that's not all.  There are actually two people in monkey suits.  The film also has an amazing cast of actors who I thought I would never see in a movie called Gorilla at Large.

Anne Bancroft a two time Tony award, one time Academy award, three time BAFTA award and two time Emmy award winning actress is in full femme-fatale mode.  She's a circus acrobatic working at a seaside carnival.  She runs around in tiny sparkling costumes and vamps any male she can.  She's married to Raymond Burr the owner of the carnival who at this point in his career was usually cast as bad guys.  Bancroft's trapeze act has her performing above a wild gorilla to titillate the audience.  Admittedly this film is very early in her career and I would like to say Gorilla at Large is a companion piece to The Miracle Worker but that would probably be pushing it a bit.

The gorilla is played by George Barrows who specialized in wearing gorilla suits.  Barrows was the gorilla in Robot Monster, Tarzan and His Mate, The Adventures of Captain Africa, Hillbillys in a Haunted House and that unforgettable episode of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., My Friend the Gorilla. 

Well there's a murder at the carnival so let's call in detective Lee J. Cobb to solve it.  Cobb had worked with Arthur Miller, Elia Kazan, George Cukor and Sidney Lumet.  Cobb has to unravel the murder while constantly chewing on a big gross cigar and firing off the "one-liner" gorilla jokes.  He acts like he is doing stand-up at some comedy club. Also a call out to Lee Marvin as a really stupid cop who is clearly the comedy relief in this film. 

Well it all comes down to the gorilla escaping and terrorizing the crowd on the carnival midway, while carrying Bancroft around.  It's in the great tradition of the ending of King Kong and it you are going to steal from a classic gorilla movie you might as well steal from one of the best.

 Needless to say this film was shot in 3-D so we get lots of shots of things flying at you which of course means nothing on a TV screen.  Gorilla at Large is an extremely entertaining show in the great lore of the B-movie.

The film was written by Leonard Praskins and and Barney Slater, the running time is a brisk 83 minutes. 

1960 - CIRCUS OF HORRORS, what passed for a horror film in the early 1960's.

Well they really went for it with Circus of Horrors.  Or went for it as about as much as they could for an early 1960's horror film,  A maniacal plastic surgeon has developed a new surgical technique that unfortunately has a side effect of disfiguring one of his patients.  He goes on the run and ends up at a defunct circus.  He gets the brilliant idea of performing plastic surgery on criminals to hide them from the police.  Lots of plot later the circus ends up in London where the plastic surgeon who now runs the circus kills off anyone who might reveal him to the police.

We get lots of scenes of women getting transformed into beautiful babes before that are knocked off by the surgeon.  For good measure there is a nasty bear in the circus who occasionally gets out of his cage so he can maul someone.  There's also a knife throwing act that doesn't end well for the woman on the receiving end of the knives.  

The film has quite a cast.  Perennial bad guy Anton Differing plays the plastic surgeon.  Donald Pleasence plays the original owner of the circus and he's not around very long.  Yvonne Romaine was in a lot of Hammer films.  She's a lion tamer who doesn't have much luck taming one of the lions.  Yvonne Monlaur played the daughter of Donald Pleasence.  I remember her as one of the future brides in Brides of Dracula.    

Circus of Horrors was photographed in very bright colors by Douglas Slocombe.  Slocombe went on to work with Steven Spielberg on the first three Indiana Jones films.  He was a major factor in the success of that series.

The screenplay was by George Baxt, the running time is 87 minutes.

1967 - THE PANTHER WOMEN aka Las mujeres panteras

 Marching to the beat of it's own drummer is this Mexican horror film The Panther Women.  This is a very mixed bag of occult horror, female wrestlers, family curses, weird satanic ceremonies in underground vaults and for good measure a monster.

Our hero is a masked wrestler named El Angel who is clearly a copy of everyone's favorite heroic wrestler El Santo.  He even dresses like El Santo.  When El Angel isn't being called in to solve weird crimes he's in his laboratory experimenting with stuff in full wrestling apparel complete with a bulletproof and fire proof cloak he has invented

 

Well the plot is off and running as an evil sect of panther women want to destroy the heirs of a family that cursed them hundreds of years ago.  When I say panther women they are panther women, they turn into sort of panthers at 10:00 PM.   They have claws for hands and some nutty fangs in their mouths and a hair style that is supposed to look like panther ears I guess.   Frankly the makeup on the panther women is a little questionable.

 

The Panther Women is such a mixture of genres that it has already been ordained as a classic cult film which it certainly is.

The film was written by Alfredo Salazar, the running time is a brisk 88 minuts

1970 - ASSIGNMENT TERROR aka The Monsters of Terror or Dracula vs Frankenstein

This film is review protected especially from the musings of this little blog.

In Spain, space aliens revive the bodies of two deceased scientists bringing them back to life for their own nefarious purposes.  The leader of the space aliens was played by Michael Rennie who had come a very long way from his previous alien character "Klaatau" from The Day the Earth Stood Still.  German actor Karin Dor who is probably remembered for her appearances in You Only Live Twice and Topaz if she is remembered at all is one of the resurrected scientists.

Well the space aliens plans to take over the world involves them resurrecting all of the great movie monsters.  Dracula, the Wolfman, the Mummy and of course Frankenstein's monster.  All the monsters end up in a Spanish castle ready to go to work for the space aliens and waiting to pounce on an unexpected mankind.

 

Fortunately for mankind Inspector Tobermann of the Spanish police figures out what's going on and confronts the monsters in the castle.  Inspector Tobermann's main squeeze Ilsa Sternberg has been kidnapped by the space aliens and brought to the castle.  So now Inspector Toberman must rescue his girlfriend and fight off the monsters. 

Assignment Terror does have nice color photography.

The film was written by Jacinto Molina Álvarez who apparently played a lot of monsters in his career including, Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolfman and the Mummy although not all of them in this movie.  The running time is a tidy 85 minutes. 

1979 - ISLAND OF THE FISHMEN aka ISLAND OF MUTATIONS

A horror film as only the Italians could do it.  A survivor of a shipwreck ends up on an uncharted island that just happens to be near the underwater continent of Atlantis.  The island is ruled by a madman who has coerced a mad scientist to breed fish people in order to steal the gold from underwater Atlantis.  Needless to say the mad scientist has a beautiful daughter and somehow a voodoo priestess is mixed up in all of this.

This film borrowed from many other films.  The Creature From the Black Lagoon, Plague of the Zombies, The Island of Dr. Moreau and War Gods From the Deep.  The great thing about this film is that it just doesn't borrow (plagiarize) from all these other films, it takes scenes and situations from them and just bends them into it's own nutty story line.

 

The film stars model/actress Barbara Bach with the emphasis on model when it comes to her performance. The actor Claudio Cassinelli died young while working on another film for this director.  Then there are a couple of washed up English speaking actors, Richard Johnson and Joseph Cotton.  Johnson had acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company performing in Shakespeare but an actor still has to make the house payment.  

 

What can you say about Joseph Cotton?  The star of Citizen Kane, Shadow of a Doubt, and The Third Man.  Well Hollywood is not particularly kind to it's older actors.  I guess you take the work where you can get it.

The film was written by Sergio Martino, Sergio Donati and Cesare Frugoni, the running time is 100 minutes.

1935 - THE WALKING DEAD, modest but entertaining horror/crime film

Boris Karloff is a man framed for the murder of a judge.  After being sentenced to death in the electric chair he is brought back to life by sort of mad scientist played by "Santa Claus" himself Edmund Gwenn.  As is the way with a 1930's Karloff film he lumbers around seeking revenge sort of like Frankenstein looking for the people who set him up for murder.  Karloff is a very good lumberer.

This is a Karloff horror film not produced by Universal for a change.  Warner Brothers probably offered Karloff more money than he was getting at Universal to play yet another sort of monster.  One thing you have to say Karloff was very good at playing the sympathetic monster.  You actually feel sorry for the guy by the inevitable climax.

The film was directed by one of Hollywood's greatest studio directors, Michael Curtiz.  If any director knew how to move a story along it was Curtiz, this film races along at top speed.  Curtiz had an amazing career starting in the silent era and finishing in the early 1960's.

 

The Walking Dead was the usual good Warner Brothers production with an interesting mix of Warner's character actors.  Hal Mohr was the cinematographer his chief claim to fame was as the cameraman who filmed the first talking picture, The Jazz Singer.

The film was written by Ewart Adamson, Peter Milne, Robert Andrews and Lillie Hayward.  The running time is a brisk 66 minutes.

1982 - FERAT VAMPIRE, aka UPIR Z FERATU, the vampire car movie

Well here's a plot you don't see everyday.  A race car company has developed a car that runs on human blood.  A doctor suspecting something is not right tries to get to the bottom of this unusual situation.  This leads him into a conspiracy where the automobile company that has developed the car now wants to market and sell it around the world.

The director Juraj Herz really plays up the horror elements of the story but he also seems to be making some sort of statement about the need for human kind to commit suicide by getting into a moving four wheel machine and driving faster and faster until it finally kills him or someone else.

 

Unlike the previous Herz film I viewed Beauty and the Beast, which had a lot of atmospheric gloom and doom, much of Ferat Vampire takes place in the daylight and is set in contemporary Czechoslovakia to emphasize the modern horror of the situation.

 

Does Ferat Vampire succeed as a horror film or a commentary on people's fascination with killing themselves in fast cars?  I have no idea.  However one thing you can be sure of is that this is certainly a journey into weirdo film world. I know there have been other possessed automobile films like The Car and Christine, but Ferat Vampire definitely has a tire up in the evil jalopy story sweepstakes.

The film was written by Jan Fleischer and Juraj Herz, the running time is 90 minutes.

1984 - RAZORBACK, yes it's Jaws with a really big pig

A giant wild boar is running around the Australian Outback killing and eating people.  Yes it's Jaws in the desert except instead of being set in the ocean we are in the middle of a lot of dirt.

A fair number of people get killed which includes the wildlife photographer wife of an American who is now out for revenge.  It all comes to a climax at an illegal pet food factory where it's the American vs the really big "Sus scrofa" aka wild boar.

 

This foolishness is directed by a man named Russell Mulcahy who along with Razorback is also responsible for Highlander and it's completely ridiculous sequel Highlander II: The Quickening.  Mulcahy was one of those flashy music video directors who liked lots of weird camera angels, frenzied editing and a spastic moving camera racing all over the place.

 

Is this film worth watching?  Well it's pretty dumb.

The film was written by Everett De Roche who cranked out a lot of garbage for Australian film and television.  The running time is 91 minutes. 

1978 - BEAUTY AND THE BEAST aka THE VIRGIN AND THE MONSTER

There have been many versions of Beauty and the Beast with Jean Cocteau's film and the Disney animated feature probably the best known adaptations of this story.  From Czechoslovakia comes this fascinating version.

The emphasis is on horror and is it ever on horror with the love story almost relegated to a next to nothing subplot.  The story is still basically the same with the daughter of a merchant substituting for her father after he violates the home of a mysterious creature living in a creepy rundown castle.   If you are looking for a Beauty and the Beast film with singing dishware you better skip over this one.  An atmosphere of decay and ruin runs through the film.  In fact the Beast is haunted by voices in his head telling him to kill Beauty a nice creepy touch.

 

The film opens with the slaughter of the Merchant's wagon train by some bandits and the killing of a woman by the Beast.  The story then moves to a not very merry medieval village where we get to watch animals being slaughtered for a wedding in a town that is one big muddy disgusting mess.  The cinematography compliments the setting with lots of gloomy and foggy night photography.

 

This version of Beauty and the Beast was directed by Juraj Herz who was associated with the "Czech New Wave." A horror film version of this old narrative war horse was an interesting approach to a frequently adapted story and definitely worth a look.

The film was written by Pavla Marková, the running time is a spooky 91 minutes.  

2025 - PRIMITIVE WAR, the "B" movie lives on

It's 1968 and we're in Vietnam where an elite group of Green Berets have been sent to a hidden valley to find out what happened to a previous squad of soldiers.  Well surprise surprise the valley is full of hungry dinosaurs who are part of a time travel experiment the evil Russians have been running.  This film isn't called Primitive War for nothing.  Yes this is a cross between Jurassic Park, Apocalypse Now, Platoon and a whole bunch of Vietnam war movies I've missed. 

You can put this in the 12 year old boy category of films.  There's man eating dinosaurs, lots of gun play, evil Russians, people getting graphically eaten by dinosaurs and a goofy science fiction subplot to tie it all together.  The cast seems game and appears to enjoy shooting their guns because there is a lot a shooting of dinosaurs so we don't have to deal with pesky things like character development and dialog.  The film was shot in Australia which is obviously subbing for Vietnam.  The film's budget was 7 million dollars, B movies aren't that cheap anymore.

 

The special effects are of a variable quality.  The CGI dinosaurs look better in the dark than the light.  It costs a lot of money these days to make realistic phony dinosaurs.  The director/writer Luke Sparke must be a real auteur since he has his name on about every other title in the credit scroll.  This is very enjoyable foolishness and yes there is a woman in the film because there always has to be a woman in a film like this.  Primitive War is certainly more enjoyable than those recent Jurassic World films.

1958 - WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST, sequel to THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN

The Colossal Beast is back in this sequel to The Amazing Colossal Man.  After having been presumably killed by a fall off a cliff into a river the Colossal Beast (aka Lt. Colonel Glenn Manning) is living in the hills in Mexico.  After being drugged and captured by the U.S. Army the Colossal Beast is taken back to Los Angeles where naturally he escapes and runs amok leading to the inevitable giant stop the monster climax.

This low budget but highly entertaining film comes from who else, American International Pictures.  There's hardly a dull moment. Unfortunate actor Dean Parkin is stuck running around in a diaper stomping on small sets in a tribute to Toho Studios.  To compound matters Parkin is stuck with some kind of gross makeup on his face to let the audience know he is one scary monster dude.

The director is the legendary "B" filmmaker Bert L. Gordon who pumped out this kind of cheaply made horror/science fiction/fantasy stuff his entire career.  Some of his titles include, Attack of the Puppet People, Earth vs. the Spider and Empire of the Ants throughout his film making career and Gordon had a long career he lived to age 100. 

The film actually borrows from The Wizard of Oz of all things with the last section of this epic changing from black and white into color. 

 

The film was written by  George Worthing Yates and old hand at this kind of cheap monster movie stuff, the running time is a brisk 69 minutes.

2013 - HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, consider the title

As children Hansel and Gretel survive the evil witch in the gingerbread house.  They grow up to be a pair of witch hunters who kill witches for a bounty.  They end up in a small village which is being attacked by a really tough evil witch and her coven.  The really tough evil witch wants Gretel's heart so she can perform a ritual that will make all witches immune to fire.  Let the violence and the bloodbath commence.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is a very silly movie to put it mildly.  The intention appears to be to go down the same road as the John Landis horror comedy An American Werewolf in London.  That film mixed humor and what was at the time trendsetting gross out effects.  Well they got the gross out part right they just couldn't seem to get any clever humor out of their silly story. 

The film was shot in Europe mostly with European actors.  However the leads were American actor Jeremy Renner as Hansel, taking a break from playing Hawkeye from those Marvel superhero movies. However you wouldn't really know it since he basically plays Hansel and Hawkeye as the same character.  British actor Jemma Arterton is Gretel who in this case is taking a break from playing a credible performer in her career. The writer of this epic didn't even attempt to explain their mishmash of American and British accents. 

 

The film was produced by one time comedy partners Will Farrell and Adam McKay and I get that everyone involved in this production had their tongues really in their cheeks.  But for a film like this to succeed you really need to be a lot wittier spoofing this fantasy stuff and while the gross out bloody humor is in abundance, the actual amount of cleverness is sorely lacking.

 

Of course after criticizing the stupidity of this film I do have to report that it made a bumch of money for the studio.  There was a lot of discussion about filming a Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 but as of this date it never came to pass.  Kind of surprising since Hollywood never passes on an opportunity to beat a film concept to death if there are bucks involved.  Even though this film made a lot of money it's still a piece of crap.

The film was written by the director Tommy Wirkola, the running time is 88 minutes. 

1982 - HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH, a misfire of a movie.

Obviously the third in the Halloween series and usually thought of as the movie that didn't have Michael Meyers in it.  John Carpenter only took a producer credit on this film and turned it over to his production designer/editor Tommy Lee Wallace.  Carpenter hired British writer Nigel Kneale author of the Quatermass films.  However Kneale was dissatisfied with the direction the film was heading and left the production.  So besides directing Wallace handled the screenwriting.  The final result was a mess of a story.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch has a rather ridiculous plot involving Stonehedge, an Irish businessman who wants to pull the ultimate Halloween trick and robots of all things.  The original Halloween movie shows up on television screens that people are watching thoughout this movie but it's only a reminder of what a better film that was. 

 

As for the cast, a doctor played by character actor Tom Atkins teams up with the female lead Stacey Nelkin to investigate all of this stuff.  Nelkin was a sort of an actor whose chief claim to fame was as the very young real life girlfriend of Woody Allen.  Also showing up is Dan O'Herlihy as the evil CEO.  O'Herlihy at least brings a little gravitas to this film.  It's fun to See Atkins in a leading role for a change he certainly knows his way around genre films.   

 

Frankly this movie is terrible, the story is at best ridiculous, the scary stuff isn't scary and the action scenes are barely competent.  This film made money but it was not the big bucks payday the producers were looking for.  If anything redeems this film it's the cinematography of Dean Cundey, but nobody is going to watch a film because they want to see how the film looks.

The producers learned their lessons and Michael Meyers came back from the dead to star in all the other Halloween sequels. Halloween III: Season of the Witch is now considered a cult classic but it's an undeserving cult classic.

The running time is 99 minutes.

2019 - VFW, a nostalgic horror film

A nostalgic horror film filled with a cast of character actor old timers.  VFW is also one gory and violent film.  The director Joe Begos is a relatively young guy seems attracted to this kind of extremely nasty stuff in his other films and VFW has plenty of intense over the top violence.

The plot such that it is has a gang of drug dealers looking for a member who has run away from the gang with a load of their very nasty drugs.  She ends up hiding in a rundown VFW bar full of over the hill army veterans. The veterans decide to take a stand and protect her from the gang.  VFW is kind of a really savage version of Rio Bravo or Assault On Precinct 13.  Let the siege commence and make sure everyone is swimming in blood with all the killing going on by the end of the film.

 

Besides the incredible killing stuff what this film has going for it is an amazing cast of actor old guys.  Stephen Lang, William Sadler, Fred Williamson, David Patrick Kelly and George Wendt are the oldsters who turn out to be just as scary and tough as the drug dealers.  These performers should know a thing or two about how to be tough guys since they mostly spent their careers in action movies.

 

This film is well made and I have to say the spilled blood and the violent action scenes are also very well photographed.  The old guy actors actually bring a kind of a poignancy to this story which is hard to believe. but it's there.  If this kind of stuff is your cup of carnage, VFW can be a very enjoyable story.
