These weren't the best films I viewed this year, but for a variety of reasons I believe they speak to what films are, a collaborative medium filled with mediocrity and compromise most of the time.  Occasionally certain films can manage to drag themselves up into something greater.

When Willie Comes Marching Home - unbelievably bland comedy from John Ford, this could have been filmed by anyone, contrary to popular film scholar belief, not every Ford film is a classic.  Hard to believe Ford was an award winning director watching this film.

MGM Studio Tour - shows what a joke the auteur theory is, this silent film tours the MGM studios and shows the various departments and department head of the studio, these are the real auteurs of the Hollywood system.

Red Line 7000 - supposedly Howard Hawk's worst film, yeah it has bad acting and bad rear projection in the racing scenes, but a least it has a story and interesting situations, in no way is it the disaster that everyone claims it is.

The Blue Light - Hitler's favorite director Leni Riefenstahl in a visually stunning film.

The Green Zone - Clueless liberals run amok with a big budget in this criticism of the Iraq war,  doesn't anyone watch cable news?  This is the price of letting a big time star and director do whatever they want.

The Virgin Spring - Ingmar Bergman's influential horror film.

Titanic - Still as bad as I remembered it, "you can fool all of the people all of the time."

The 39 Steps - I'm more impressed than ever with this Hitchcock classic, good direction, writing and action, this is an extremely influential popular entertainment which Hollywood is still trying to duplicate ( see Knight and Day).

New York New York -  Emperor Marty has no clothes.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World - Emperor Edgar has no clothes II.

Tron Legacy - An example of a 2010 film release that failed at the simplest thing, entertainment. This film could have been called,  Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Iron man 2, Jonah Hex, Clash of the Titans, Alice in Wonderland, Kick-Ass, Robin Hood, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The A Team, Knight and Day, Eat Pray Love etc.
